Broward Education Foundation elects new officers
The Broward Education Foundation has elected new officers for the 2010-2012 Board of Directors’ term and added four new members.
Joseph M. Cobo was elected chairman of the Board. Cobo is president & CEO of the firm Cobo, Welzien, Bowers & Company, a Certified Public Accounting and Consulting firm. He has served on the Board of the Broward Education Foundation since 2002 and most recently was its vice chairman. Cobo also serves on the Board of Commissions of the North Broward Hospital District. In 2008, he was awarded the Community Service Award by the Latin Chamber of Commerce of Broward County.
Other officers elected include, Darrell Forte elected as the vice chairman. Forte is the CEO of Millennium Technology Group. David Marcus, vice president of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., was elected as the new treasurer. A senior government affairs specialist, Maureen Wilt, was elected as the Board secretary.
New Board members include: Gerald Flourney, account executive with Pearson Digital Curriculum; Sue Gordon, president of Algy Costumes; Leslie Kristof, director of operations with the University of Phoenix; and Brian Ulery, vice president, Broward Health.
Founded as a direct support organization of Broward County Public Schools, the Broward Education Foundation is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to support excellence in public education. Through its various fundraising activities, the Foundation supports student scholarships, grants to teachers and free school supplies for Title I schools.
