Three stooges impersonate FBI during Cooper City home invasion

Two of the three thieves who pretended to be FBI while breaking into a Cooper City home.

A homeowner quickly turned the tables on some fake FBI agents when he fired his gun and sent them running for cover early Monday morning. Broward Sheriff’s Office robbery detectives are releasing surveillance video in the hopes of identifying the three suspects.

The attempted home-invasion robbery, reminiscent of an old The Stooges movie, occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on July 12, when the suspects were captured on surveillance video as they pulled into the driveway of a Cooper City home in the 5000 block of SW 104 Avenue. Two of the clumsy crooks tried to enter the house while the third suspect acted as the lookout.

The bungling bandits are seen trying to pry open the front door with a crowbar. When that doesn’t work they try to gain entry through a front window, but their efforts are quickly thwarted when homeowner Malcolm Pena fires his .40 caliber Smith & Wesson pistol through the window by the front door. The two startled suspects barely make it back to their newer model, mid-size, silver SUV Mercedes Benz before the third suspect drives off.

All three unidentified males were wearing baseball hats and T-shirts with the letters FBI on the back. They also had badges around their necks and wore a dark fabric, possibly nylon, covering their faces.

Anyone with information on the identity and/or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call BSO Robbery Det. Ben Koos at (or call Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at (954) 493-TIPS or online at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
