Contractor checkpoint in Cooper City nets commercial violators

The Broward Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit stopped and inspected 42 vehicles Tuesday morning during a Commercial Contractor Operation in Cooper City.

Investigators from the State of Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation Broward County’s Contractor Compliance Unit, BSO’s Aggravated Felonies Unit and Gun Squad assisted the Economic Crimes Unit.

They checked drivers for valid driver licences, insurance, warrants and contracting licenses required for their specific trades. The operation was from 7 a.m. to noon Monday at 10260 Griffin Road in Cooper City. Detectives and support staff established a traffic check point for the purpose of stopping commercial vehicles being operated for contracting and construction purposes.

The operation resulted in the issuance of nine notices to appear by BSO, four citations or non-compliance orders from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, 10 county citations and one physical arrest for driving without a valid driver license. BSO also issued 15 traffic citations.

BSO conducts these checkpoints periodically at various locations to help ensure that commercial vehicles are being operated in a safe and legal manner.
