Police identify Pembroke Pines teen killed in ATV wreck
Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit detectives have released the names of the two teens involved in Monday’s fatal all-terrain vehicle crash in Southwest Ranches.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue crews and BSO deputies responded to the 5400 block of SW 172 Avenue just before 5 p.m. Monday, after a 9-1-1 caller advised of an ATV crash with serious injuries. The ATV’s rider, 16-year-old Daniel Perez, of Pembroke Pines, was critically injured after he struck a utility pole while riding as a passenger on an ATV driven by Enrique Rodriguez, 16, of Southwest Ranches. On the scene in less than three minutes, BSFR Southwest Ranches units immediately initiated advanced life support treatment and transported Perez via BSO Air Rescue helicopter to Memorial Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries Monday night. Rodriguez was not injured.
BSO Traffic Homicide Unit investigators are looking into the cause of the accident. Under investigation is how the victim, Perez, crashed into the wooden utility pole located in a grassy swale on the east side of SW 172 Avenue. Neither of the teens were wearing helmets at the time.
SW 172 Avenue was closed to traffic for several hours from Griffin Road south while investigators processed the scene. Southwest Ranches Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the scene.
