Suspects killed, wounded in Southwest Ranches burglary
One suspect was killed and another was wounded during a burglary in progress call Saturday night in Southwest Ranches.
At 8:39 pm deputies were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a house under construction at 13601 Bella Ranch Lane. A neighbor had noticed people at the construction site and did not believe they belonged there, prompting that person to dial 911.
BSO deputies arrived and encountered two suspects driving a light-colored van. A deputy on foot directed the van driver to stop, but instead the driver struck the deputy with the truck, injuring his leg. Deputies fired at the van, striking the driver and a second suspect inside the vehicle.
Both suspects were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood where the driver was pronounced dead at 9:46 pm. The wounded suspect is still being treated. His condition is unknown.
The injured deputy was transported to Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines for treatment of a possible leg fracture. His condition is unknown.
Per standard procedure, the fatal incident is under investigation by the Broward Sheriff’s Office Homicide, Crime Scene and Internal Affairs Units, with assistance from Southwest Ranches deputies.
