One dead,one injured in West Park shooting

One man is dead and another was injured after shots rang out in a West Park neighborhood Monday night.

Broward Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call advising shots were fired at 4221 SW 39 Street at around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, April 19. Upon arrival deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, identified as Richard Burke, 48, of Wellington, was transported by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Shortly after receiving the first call, units were dispatched to a second location at SW 40th Avenue and Countyline Road, where a second victim was located. That male victim, Xavier Garzon, 21, who resides at the home where the shooting took place, was also transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

BSO deputies set up a perimeter and canvassed the area looking for potential suspects. BSO Homicide detectives and Crime Scene detectives also responded to the scene and are investigating the incident.
