College Academy @ Broward College to Hold Open Houses

Broward County Public Schools College Academy @ BC will hold informational open houses at Bailey Hall, Broward Community College, Central Campus, 3501 SW Davie Road, Davie, on Wednesday, January 27 at 7 p.m. (for students whose last names begin with A-L) and Thursday, January 28 at 7 p.m. (for students whose last names begin with M-Z).

The College Academy @ BC (CA) is a joint Broward County Public Schools and Broward College educational experience, which offers high school juniors the opportunity to receive concurrently a high school diplomas and an Associate of Arts degrees from Broward College.  Students enrolled in the accelerated college entrance program take both high school and college courses at BC’s Central Campus.  Tuition and books are provided at no cost for College Academy students.  As a result, the freshman and sophomore years of college are free of charge.  Students are also able to qualify for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program as Florida Academic Scholars or Florida Medallion Scholars.

The CA is a place where A High School Student Goes to College and is designed for students who have the maturity required for college campus life, the discipline to manage their time independently, and the intellectual ability to handle the rigors of college work.  Students share in an enriching cultural experience and campus life, and are able to participate in most of BC’s extensive extracurricular activities.

Now in its ninth year, the College Academy @ BC provides an educational bridge from high school to college for a select group of students who wish to pursue their post-secondary goals through dual enrollment.  For the last three years, between 97 – 99% of the College Academy graduating class earned an AA degree as well as a high school diploma and 100% have qualified for Bright Futures Scholarships.

High school sophomores interested in learning how they can receive a high school diploma and college degree at the same time are invited to the College Academy @ BC Open House.  Broward County students who are currently in the 10th grade may apply to be accepted to the College Academy. Eligibility requirements and program benefits will be explained, and specific questions from prospective students and their parents will be addressed at the open house.  Information and a downloadable application packet may be obtained online at (www.collegeacademyatbc.org). For additional information, contact the College Academy at 754-321-6900.
