Cops clean streets: 132 arrests, large amount drugs brought in

The Broward Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Drug Enforcement Administration, state Probation and Parole, the Department of Health and Human Services, as well as the Hallandale, Hollywood, Lauderhill and Sunrise police departments in a massive crackdown that led to 132 arrests.

The large-scale, two-day operation that ended at 2 a.m. Saturday targeted criminal activity such as prostitution, online sexual predators, street-level drug deals and the illegal sale and distribution of prescription medication. This is the third such multi-agency operation organized by BSO in the past six months.

In addition to the multiple felony arrests, the operation resulted in the confiscation of four guns, 1,842 prescription pills such as Oxycodone and Hydrocodone, 407 pounds of marijuana, 3.4 kilos of heroin, 877 grams of cocaine, eight vehicles and more than $63,000 in cash. One of the recovered guns had been reported stolen.

BSO’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force arrested two men, each on counts of possession of child pornography.

“Working with our partner federal, state and local law enforcement agencies sends a message loud and clear to criminals who operate in Broward County,” Sheriff Al Lamberti said. “We will do whatever it takes to put an end to crime on our streets.”
