Broward County Offices Close for Veterans Day, November 11

County Appoints New Transit Director

Timothy S. “Tim” Garling has been appointed Broward County Transit Division Director. Garling will be responsible for the day-to-day operational and administrative management of Broward County Transit (BCT). BCT is an agency of the Broward County Commission with a fleet of 300 buses, an operating budget of $115 million and a workforce of nearly 1,000 employees. More…

Donate Food Items So Everyone Can Enjoy a Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and many families in our community will not experience the joy of celebrating a Thanksgiving meal. By donating holiday food items (i.e. canned yams, green beans, cranberries, etc.) to the 365 Food Drive, Thanksgiving cheer can be spread to those who are less fortunate. Food donation sites are available throughout the County.

Construction of New Northeast Transit Center in Pompano Beach Progressing

Construction of the new Northeast Transit Center (NTC), tentatively scheduled for completion in late-fall 2011, is progressing. The support building was completed on July 1, and staff have been working with contractors to complete construction of the driveways, passenger platforms, platform canopies, lighting and other site amenities. The NTC is located at the southwest corner of Dixie Highway and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard (west of the Florida East Coast Railway and one traffic light north of Atlantic Boulevard), and will serve as a connecting transfer point for bus routes 20, 42, 50, 60 and the Pompano Beach Community Bus. Waste and Recycling Celebrates America Recycles Day November 13

Residents are invited to America Recycles Day and a Free Electronics Recycling Drop-Off event hosted by Broward County Waste and Recycling Services from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, November 13, at Vista View Park, 4001 S.W. 142nd Ave., Davie. Residents can bring used electronics, including televisions, computers, monitors, keyboards, printers, fax machines, compact discs and digital video disc players. Proof of Broward County residency, such as a driver’s license or current utility bill, is required. More…
