Broward County Closures for Christmas and New Year’s Holidays

Broward County governmental offices will be closed on Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1, in observance of the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays.

Animal Care and Regulation’s two animal shelters will be closed on both days. An Animal Care officer will be on duty to handle emergencies involving animal attacks or bites, injured animals and police requesting assistance. The Aviation Department Administrative Offices at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport will be closed. Calls will be answered 24 hours a day for general airport related questions at

All branches of the Broward County Library will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, December 24 and December 31, and remain closed on Friday, December 25 and January 1. Visit the Library’s Web site at www.broward.org/library to search the online catalog, place holds and renew selected materials.

All Broward County regional parks, nature centers, and neighborhood parks will be closed on Friday, December 25, and Friday, January 1. Also closed on December 25 are the campgrounds and Ski Rixen at Quiet Waters Park and Butterfly World at Tradewinds Park. All Golf at C.B. Smith Park will be open. Campgrounds at C.B. Smith, Easterlin, Markham and T.Y. parks will be open both holidays. On January 1, the campgrounds at Quiet Waters Park will be closed; however, Ski Rixen at Quiet Waters Park, Butterfly World at Tradewinds Park and All Golf at C.B. Smith Park will be open.

Broward County Transit will operate regular scheduled service on Thursday, December 24 and December 31, and Sunday-holiday scheduled service on Friday, December 25 and January 1. Regular scheduled services will resume on Saturday, December 26 and January 2. Customer service representatives will be available on both holidays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at TTY or go to www.broward.org/bct.

The Broward Addiction Recovery Centers (BARC) will be operating the 24-hour detoxification and residential programs on an emergency basis, but the administrative offices will be closed.

The Sexual Assault Treatment Center will operate the Crisis Intake Unit on a 24-hour emergency basis, but the administrative offices will be closed. In case of an emergency, call the 24-hour hotline at RAPE).

The Southwest Regional (BIC) Landfill at 7101 S.W. 205th Avenue will be closed on December 25 and January 1. For those residents of Unincorporated Broward County whose regularly scheduled pickup falls on Friday, December 25, there will be no service on those days. Instead, garbage will be collected on their next regularly scheduled pickup day. There will be pickup service on Friday, January 1, 2009.

The Residential Trash Transfer Stations located in Pompano Beach and West Park will be closed on December 25 and January 1, but will be open both Saturdays following the holidays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Central Trash Transfer Station in Davie, closed on Fridays, will have normal operating hours both Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
