Meat Loaf is Back for More at Hard Rock Live on September 1
Larger-than-life Grammy Award-winning rock vocalist Meat Loaf is back for more at Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, September 1 at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale Friday, July 9 at noon. Joining Meat Loaf on stage will be special guest Pearl.
For the past 35 years, the man born Marvin Lee Aday has been a towering monument on the musical landscape. His legendary 1977 album Bat Out of Hell transformed this former high school football player, nightclub bouncer and stage actor into one of the great American rock ‘n’ roll icons. That record, with its staggering operatic sound and impassioned vocals, has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide – still one of the biggest-selling records ever.
Meat Loaf’s reputation as one of music’s greatest artists was underlined by such masterpieces as
“You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth,” “Paradise by the Dashboard Light” (with Ellen Foley), “Two out of Three Ain’t Bad” and the title track, “Bat out of Hell” – all classic rock staples from the aforementioned Bat Out of Hell album.
He returned to the charts with “I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)” off of Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell (1993), an album selling over five million copies. Other releases included Dead Ringer (1981), Bad Attitude (1984), Blind Before I Stop (1986), Welcome to the Neighborhood (1995) and Couldn’t Have Said It Better (2003)
Meat Loaf’s latest release is Hang Cool Teddy Bear (2010) which features guest collaborations with Tim Pierce, Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins (who co-wrote two songs for the album), Steve Vai, Queen guitarist Brian May, American Idol presenter Kara DioGuardi, actor Jack Black, and even Hugh Laurie – the English actor famous for starring in Blackadder and hit US TV show House.
Meat Loaf has also appeared in many movies and television shows sometimes as himself, or as characters resembling his stage persona. His most notable roles include Eddie and Dr. Scott in the American premiere of The Rocky Horror Show, Robert “Bob” Paulson in Fight Club, Tiny the bouncer in Wayne’s World, Dennis the Spice Bus Driver in Spice World, and Jack Black’s father in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny. Meat Loaf starred as police detective Jack Morris in The Hallmark Channel original film Citizen Jane.
Opening act is soulful rock chanteuse Pearl, stepdaughter of rock legend Meat Loaf. Having a solid foundation in the music industry (her biological dad played drums in Janis Joplin’s Full Tilt Boogie Band and her mother, Leslie, toured with Meat Loaf), Pearl, herself, backed up Meat Loaf from 1994 to 2003 and also sang with Motley Crue. She performed with various other artists, and then at her 29th birthday party, she met two musicians that would change the path of her life and her career. That night, her future husband, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, introduced her to the members in Mother Superior, who backed Henry Rollins, Daniel Lanois and others. A magical collaboration in songwriting and musicianship led her to record her solo debut, Little Immaculate White Fox, released earlier this year. Pearl draws her inspiration from The Stones, AC/DC, The Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Bonnie Raitt, Steven Tyler and Pat Benatar.
