Miramar firefighters raising the boot to help MDA
Beginning April 7, 2010, the City of Miramar Fire-Rescue Department, in cooperation with the Miramar Firefighters Local 2820,will kick-off the annual tradition of “Filling-the-Boot” for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). Collections will begin on April 7th, 8th, 9th, 14th, 15th, and 16th.
As part of the effort, Miramar Firefighters will partner with MDA to bring some Miramar families, who benefit from MDA Collections, to meet with the firefighters. A bus will depart from the Miramar Town Center on Wednesday, March 24 at 10:30 am and visit each Fire-Rescue station to meet the crews who will be out collecting on their behalf.
On Labor Day, September 6, 2010, representatives of Miramar Firefighters Local 2820 will make the check presentation to MDA at the local broadcast facility for the 2010 MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon.
The goal this year is to surpass $6000.00 which can provide:
24 hours of research at the University of Miami; or
Send 150 children to MDA Summer Camp; or
Repair to 240 wheelchairs, leg braces, or communication devices; or
Allow 600 visits to the MDA Clinic at Broward General Medical Center, University of Miami, or St. Catherine’s Rehabilitation Hospital; or
Provide 4,000 flu shots.
