Many of Broward’s best restaurants have partnered with PremierDiningFlorida.com to help you eat on the cheap. Founded by Kevin Short, a long-time restaurateur, PremierDiningFlorida.com focuses on getting you the best deals for eating out: half price gift certificates. From the casual Tijuana Taxi to Mango’s in Fort Lauderdale to Thai Spice and Sage Café, a neighborhood grille, Premier Dining Florida has a taste for every palate, and every budget with its dining discounts. Most recently, Blue Martini, one of South Florida’s top restaurant/lounges signed up to offer 50% discounts to customers.
Short started offering half price restaurant certificates through PremierDiningFlorida.com after a layoff in South Florida found him job hunting. Instead of waiting around, this go-getter started his own company. Working with restaurants, putting together promotions that benefit both the restaurants and the consumer is a natural fit for Short who started in the restaurant industry by studying at the American Culinary Federation.
“Every restaurant’s biggest expense is marketing to get people in the door,” said Short. “I knew of some other sites out there…and I realized with the Internet market, I could build a site and brand to help bring customers in while giving them great discounts on eating out.”
Using a combination of restaurant, management and sales experience, Short is using all his strengths to make it work. After culinary school, Short was general manager at Houston’s for eight years, then helped found and create 811 Bourbon St., a New Orleans food and jazz venue in Plantation before going into sales for a few years.
“I’ve done every position in a restaurant that you can think of,” he said. “Wash dishes, tables, cook, manage, construction, development and I love it.”
After 811 Bourbon Street, Short worked at Buca di Beppo, Bruschetta & Co. and finally at Shula’s Steakhouse as general manger where he was downsized.
It was then that he decided it was time to start PremierDiningFlorida.com. It was doing what he loved and what he knew best: restaurants.
“Restaurants win and people win—it’s very rewarding,” said Short who is adding new restaurants to his half-price gift certificate program every day.
In conjunction with the 50% off gift certificates, Short includes area events in a calendar to help you make it dinner and a date, and even includes Wine 101, updated weekly and which allows you to educate yourself about various types of wine.
Another feature on his site allows visitors (from anywhere in the world) purchase generic gift certificates that can be used for any restaurant gift certificate on the site. You can also sign up weekly for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to the site.
