MAN ON A BEER RUN LEFT BRUISED, BEATEN AND WITHOUT A CAR
Jose Rodriguez, 52, of Pompano Beach FL, was left hurt and walking home after being the target of a beating and carjacking outside a Pompano Beach gas station.
Rodriguez drove his white, 1998 Pontiac Sunfire to a nearby BP Gas Station on November 7 to buy beer with a friend. Rodriguez waited in the car while his friend went inside to buy a 12-pack of Coronas. As Rodriguez sat behind the wheel, the three occupants of the car next to his exited the convenience store. Surveillance video loses two of the men off camera, but the main suspect is seen saying something to Rodriguez. The suspect walks around to the passenger side of Rodriguez’s car and hangs half of his body in through the window as he argues and fights with him. Once Rodriguez’s friend comes out of the convenience store, beer in hand, the suspect directs his attention to him, and they’re seen exchanging words.
Rodriguez exits his car, and the other two suspects reappear.
One of the suspects, wearing a long-sleeve, white shirt, seems to be interested in retrieving a jacket left inside Rodriguez’s car by the first suspect. The main suspect and second accomplice are each arguing with Rodriguez and his friend. Then, Rodriguez walks in front of his car and pushes the main suspect, who begins to lay punches on Rodriguez, knocking him to the ground. The suspect begins to run around Rodriguez’s car dishing out punches, knocking Rodriguez down to the ground two more times, before jumping in the Sunfire and speeding away. The other two suspects flee in a maroon vehicle.
The main suspect, seen clearly on video surveillance as he enters the convenience store, is described as a black male, measuring about 6’2’ in height, weighing approximately 160 lbs. and wearing a black, hooded jacket, black tank top and tan shorts.
