Broward County to Open Homeless Shelters

Tropical storms can be especially dangerous for persons without shelter. Broward County will provide transportation and shelter assistance to homeless persons during Tropical Storm Isaac. Unsheltered homeless persons are strongly encouraged to seek shelter. Buses are now picking up homeless persons at designated locations and will continue to do so throughout the day today until sundown. Pick ups will resume again Sunday morning.

Broward Outreach Center, 2056 Scott Street, Hollywood
Pompano Beach City Hall, Atlantic Boulevard and First Avenue, Pompano Beach
Salvation Army Lodge, 1445 W. Broward Blvd., Fort Lauderdale

Central Homeless Assistance Center, 920 NW 7th Ave., Fort Lauderdale
North Homeless Assistance Center, 1700 Blount Road, Pompano Beach

Every effort will made to alert the homeless through the news media, feeding programs, outreach teams and law enforcement officials.

Homeless shelter residents are allowed one suitcase, duffel bag or plastic bag of belongings. Additional belongings will be left at the nearest shelter pick-up point.

These pickup points and shelters are for the homeless only.
