Broward County Animal Care Hosts Dog Smarts Class Tuesday, August 14

- Class teaches the basics of dog ownership -

Chewed shoe? Torn up furniture? Too many “accidents” in the home? If any of these incidents sound familiar to you, then mark your calendars and attend the next Dog Smarts 101 class on Tuesday, August 14, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Tree Tops Park, 3900 S.W. 100 Ave., Davie.

The class, hosted by Broward County Animal Care and taught by Certified Professional Dog Trainer Dawn Hanna, provides pet parents with some important information to make dog ownership easier for both the canine and its family.

The class is open to all residents and is free of charge. Since the class is not a dog training session, no pets will be permitted. Advance registration is not required.

“Pet owners often give up on their pets too quickly. As a resource for our residents, we are proud to offer Dog Smarts 101 to help people learn more about their pet and reduce the possibility of the dog being surrendered to a shelter because ‘it just didn’t work out,’” said Lisa Mendheim, public education coordinator, Broward County Animal Care and Adoption.

The program will be presented by Hanna who has more than 17 years of experience in dog behavior training. “I will provide some important tips and information that will help people understand why dogs do what they do so that both the human and their pet can better co-exist with each other,” said Hanna.
