World’s largest guitar smash to beat world record at Hard Rock

In celebration of the grand opening of Winner’s Way Parking Garage on December 15, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will create an unprecedented  and spectacular ceremonial guitar smash of 2,400 acoustic guitars, which are not “musician quality.”  The event will be documented and recorded for the Guinness Book of World Records as the “World’s Largest Guitar Smash,” with a representative of the Guinness Book on site to observe and certify the event.

The addition of 2,400 parking spaces in the new Winner’s Way Parking Garage will bring the grand total of spaces available at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood to more than 12,000.  Designed by Klai Juba Architects of Las Vegas, the Winner’s Way Parking Garage offers guests another hassle-free, covered option to access the resort’s award-winning casino and world-class amenities. It will also provide 15 elevators, six escalators, a 351-foot-tall pedestrian bridge to Seminole Paradise, a 164-foot-tall pedestrian bridge to the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, and a car count system – all in a brightly lit environment.

The grand opening event will begin with a V.I.P. cocktail reception at 5 p.m. in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino main ballroom, with rock band and rock violin performers as musical entertainment. The outdoor celebration will include a special performance by the Grammy-winning Huey Lewis and The News, which will be followed by the countdown to the Guitar Smash at 7:30 p.m., and capped by a musically synchronized fireworks display.

In true rock-star style, Hard Rock’s grand openings are deemed official with a signature guitar smash and complemented by a donation to local charities, children and musicians in need.  As part of this ceremony, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino will donate guitars worth $50,000 to the music programs of public schools in Miami-Dade County, Broward County and Palm Beach County.  The funds will be used to purchase a new guitar for every public and charter school in all three counties.

In addition, the smashed guitar pieces will be contributed to the Ann Storck Center of Plantation, where adults with disabilities will be able to create original sculptures, decorative home accents and other works of art as part of the Ann Storck Center Fine Art program.  The artwork will be available for purchase as “Smashed GuitART;” all proceeds will help support the fine art program to enable Ann Storck Center residents to continue to discover abilities and build independence.”

Members from the Seminole Tribe of Florida and its Seminole Tribal Council, Seminole Gaming executives, Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino staff, Kraft Construction, Klai Juba Architects, Cleo Design, the Seminole Police Department, local celebrities including TV, radio and sports personalities as well as close to 2,000 casino players and various supporters and staff members will all be part of this momentous event.

“This is an incredibly thrilling occasion for us and a significant step to alleviating parking and property accessibility,” shared Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International and CEO of Seminole Gaming. “We’re celebrating not only a parking solution, but the people who helped make it happen – our design and construction partners, supporters, the media, and most importantly, the community and our casino guests who have embraced the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and created the need for Winner’s Way Garage.”

The $50 million construction project employed more than 300 workers and made a significant contribution to the South Florida economy.  Construction of the nine-stories-tall (112 feet), approximately one million-square-foot parking garage began in April.  This past August, representatives of the hotel, Kraft Construction, Coreslab, the Seminole Tribal Council and the Tribal Building Department celebrated the topping off of the garage by personally signing a 17,000-pound concrete slab roof before it was hoisted into place, complete with an evergreen tree to symbolize growth and good luck.

In addition to Winner’s Way Parking Garage, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino offers guests valet or self-parking in the adjacent Seminole Way and Lucky Street Garages as well as several surface parking lots, all totaling more than 12,000 parking spaces.  The parking garages offer comprehensive security protection, including state-of-the-art security cameras, guards who patrol on bicycles and Seminole Police officers in patrol cars.
