Veterans ceremony in Sunrise, other news briefs

November 11: Veterans Day Ceremony and Office Closures

On Thursday, November 11, at 11:30 a.m., the City will host a Veterans Day Ceremony at the Sunrise Civic Center Amphitheatre (10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise 33351). This year’s celebration marks the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II. To commemorate this milestone, Sunrise’s observance will feature music from the WW II era – as well as a 21-gun salute, the presentation of colors, and light refreshments.

Residents are invited to support active U.S. military service personnel overseas by bringing care package items – such as pre-packaged snack foods, individual packets of drink mix and sealed packages of non-chocolate candy – to the ceremony.

This event is sponsored in part by VITAS Innovative Hospice Care. For more information, contact the Sunrise Senior Center at (

In observance of Veterans Day, City offices will be closed on November 11. The Sunrise Senior Center will also be closed. However, Sunrise parks – as well as the City’s Golf Club, Tennis Club, the Civic Center Aquatics Complex and the Civic Center Athletic Club – will maintain their regular operating hours.
