All Broward Schools on lockdown
UPDATE: Broward County Public Schools lockdown has been lifted. All after school activities have been canceled. All Aftercare programs are intact. @ 1:56pm
All Broward County schools have been placed on an emergency lockdown after police in Pembroke Pines received a threat. The lockdown began around 8:45 a.m. after a local radio station received a call from a woman saying her husband was going to start shooting at a Pembroke Pines School. Police also received an email threatening Broward County government buildins, but officials with Broward County say no buildings outside two libraries attached to public schools have been shut down.
“I have spoken to Scott Campbell, Broward County Facilities Manager and County Administration and am told that Broward County is aware of this School lockdown and potential threat and the County is working with law enforcement,” said Kimberly Maroe, Public information officer for Broward County. “Security has been increased. Two county libraries are on lockdown as well. Pembroke Pines County library and the Southwest Regional library, both are on or adjacent to school campuses.”
Parents are being asked not to go to the school since there are no entrances or exits. Pembroke Pines police have established an information hot line for parents and the public at 954-GET-INFO (438-4636). Broward Schools has also set up a hotline at
District Information Hotline 754-321-0321.
