BSO confiscates over 5,000 pipes, bongs at Swap Shop
Acting on complaints from parents, the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents seized more than five thousand items of drug paraphernalia from the Swap Shop.
Enforcing federal drug paraphernalia laws (U.S. Code Title 21, Section 863), the BSO Pompano Beach Selective Enforcement Team and Strategic Investigations Division and ICE agents conducted surveillance and seized 5,691 items from 11 vendors on Oct. 27. The Broward Sheriff’s Office had received numerous complaints from parents saying that middle school kids, who can’t legally buy cigarettes, were purchasing drug paraphernalia from Swap Shop Vendors. While conducting the seizure, three minors went to one of the vendors hoping to buy pipes. Swap Shop management cooperated fully with this operation. The details of this investigation will be presented to the US Attorney’s Office for case filing recommendations.
Included in the items seized were pipes hidden in highlighters and pipes disguised as lipstick and key chain flash lights.
