Broward student journalists bring local games to Sports Blitz
From Broward Schools:
BECON-TV recently announced the debut of Sports Blitz Game Time, a weekly high school sports show which will broadcast a high school or local college football and volleyball game of the week on Saturday’s at 11:30 am and Sunday’s at 10:30 am beginning on September 4, 2010. BECON-TV is available on Comcast Cable channel 19 in Broward, Miami/Dade and Palm Beach County and on DIRECTV, the DISH Network and AT& T U-verse on channel 63.
Sports Blitz Game Time is unique to South Florida because it is produced by students and also serves as hands on training for immersion into sports broadcast journalism. “Just like us, our audience has a passion for high school sports. This is an opportunity to give them more of what they want: prep sports,” said executive producer, Brandon Graham. “These kids work hard every day, so this is our chance to give them the recognition they deserve.”
BECON-TV Director, Dr. Phyllis Schiffer-Simon agreed, “We’re encouraged to add more locally-produced programming to our schedule because this is content that matters to our viewers; the athletes, the students communities and families…that’s who this is about.”
