Job Fair Expo to be Held Sept. 2 at Broward College
Hoping to repeat the success of a collaborative job fair initiative in February, Broward County Community Action Agency, Broward College and Work Force One will join forces once again to host a Career and Resources Job Fair Expo, Thursday, September 2, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Broward College North Campus Omni Auditorium, 1000 Coconut Creek Blvd., Building 60, in Coconut Creek. The event is free and open to the public.
“Our first Career and Resources Job Fair was a complete success,” said Melvin Parrish, Broward County Community Action Agency. “More than 1,000 attended and 16 people were successfully placed in jobs that day.”
Expo attendees will have an opportunity to meet with South Florida employers representing such industries as education, health care, aerospace/aviation, government, leisure and hospitality, business, technological services, telecommunications and many more.
Job seekers are encouraged to “dress to impress” and bring several copies of their résumés. In addition to the exhibiting employers, the Expo will offer workshops designed to provide attendees with tools and information to aide them in their job search. Workshops will cover such topics as résumé critiquing, interview techniques and tips on networking and “working the room.”
Attendees will also be introduced to a wide range of social services agencies, including Broward County Family Success Administration Division, Broward Health Department, Children Services Council of Broward County and many others. The Expo helps match residents in need with social service agencies that can assist them. February’s expo event resulted in a family receiving assistance from the Community Action Agency to help pay off an outstanding electrical bill of $1,500.
Participants will learn about financial assistance programs supported by the Community Services Block Grant or America Recovery Reinvestment Act resources, which are a part of the Community Action Agency’s outreach efforts.
“The Career and Resources Job Fair Expo has proven to be a successful collaborative community effort to bring opportunities and useful information to those seeking employment and social services,” said Broward County Mayor Ken Keechl. “This event also introduces people to the variety of County services available to assist individuals and families in need. It’s important that we continue to work together to provide solutions to the economic challenges that we face today.”
