News briefs from City of Sunrise
Sunrise Commissioners will conduct the first reading of proposed changes to the City Charter on Thursday, July 22nd, at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall (10770 West Oakland Park Boulevard, 33351). Residents are invited to preview the agenda, and provide their input at this public hearing. The second reading will be held on Tuesday, August 10th.
A referendum will be held on any amendments to the Sunrise City Charter on Tuesday, November 2, 2010.
On Tuesday, August 3rd, the Sunrise Police Department will host its annual observance of “National Night Out Against Crime.” This free, family-friendly event will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Sunrise Civic Center ().
National Night Out will feature crime-prevention resources, K-9 demonstrations, and displays of Police and Fire-Rescue apparatus. There will also be children’s activities – including a bounce house, face painting, and a Home Depot Kid’s Clinic – as well as music and refreshments.
National Night Out is observed each year in communities across the U.S. The event helps strengthen relationships between police officers and the residents they serve. It’s also designed to generate support for – and participation in – local anti-crime programs. For more information, call (
On Friday, August 20, at 7:00 p.m., The City of Sunrise Foundation will host the first installment of its Creative Coffeehouse series in the Sunrise Civic Center Art Gallery ().
Take in paintings by Patrick Maxcy and live music by singer songwriter Matt Butcher. Starbucks will brew the coffee, and Cupcake Gloria will serve fresh-baked dessert bites. Admission is just $10, with all proceeds benefitting the not-for-profit City of Sunrise Foundation.
