Meeting on plan to replace Sunrise Key Blvd. Bridge in Fort Lauderdale
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is holding a meeting to inform the community of the proposed plan to replace the Sunrise Key Boulevard Bridge just east of Victoria Park Road in Fort Lauderdale.
The meeting will be held Thursday, July 29, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Gateway Terrace Apartments Community Room located at
The bridge, which is owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale, has been determined to be structurally deficient, which indicates replacement is necessary in the near future. FDOT is taking the lead on this project because federal funds are being provided through FDOT’s Bridge Replacement Program. FDOT will prepare preliminary plans and a specification package for a design-build team to use for the final design and construction of the new bridge.
The existing bridge is 31’11″ wide with two 12-foot-wide travel lanes and a sidewalk on one side.
The proposed new bridge will have two 11-foot-wide travel lanes with sidewalk on both sides and will be approximately 4.5 feet wider than the existing bridge. The new bridge will be constructed within the existing 50-foot-wide right of way.
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2012 and will be done one side at a time in order to maintain access for residents.
The meeting will have an informal, open house format. No formal presentation will be made. Displays depicting the existing and proposed new bridges will be available for review. FDOT and city staff will be available throughout the meeting to discuss the proposed new bridge, answer questions and address individual concerns.
Public participation is solicited without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability or family status. Persons who require special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or persons who require translation services (free of charge) should contact FDOT’s Project Manager, Mr. Thuc Le., P.E., prior to the meeting. He can be reached by phone at or email at .
