Crist asks for $100 million from BP for cleanup and research

Governor Charlie Crist has sent a letter to Lamar McKay, President of BP America, requesting $100 million to cover the costs of the critical and time sensitive response to threats from the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to Florida’s seabed, water column, surface and shoreline.

The funds would support the efforts of the Florida Institute of Oceanography, a partnership of 21 universities and other marine science organizations throughout Florida.

It is still not been determined by the Gulf Coast whether the tar balls that washed ashore yesterday in the Keys are related to the massive oil spill in the Gulf.

The letter from Governor Crist to BP President Lamar McKay is shown in its entirety in the slideshow or click here.
