Tower Forum Presents: The Great Recession: Why This Recovery is Different
WHO: TOWER FORUM
WHAT: “The Great Recession: Why This Recovery is Different”
The economic recession that took hold of the United States in the fall of 2008 might be slowly starting to loosen its grip, but don’t tell
that to people on Main Street who are struggling to run small businesses, make mortgage payments and put food on the table. The severity of this recession is unprecedented in the lifetime of most Americans.
Dr. Tom Cunningham of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta will discuss what has made this recession so difficult and why the recovery is not following a path similar to that of past recessions.
SPEAKER: Dr. Tom Cunningham is vice president and associate director of research for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. Dr. Cunningham is responsible for the operation of the research department, including budget and personnel planning, as well as oversight of the Atlanta Fed’s Economic Review. He serves on the Bank’s Personnel, Automation and Risk Management committees.
Previously, he served as vice president in the research department, where he was responsible for both the regional and Latin American research teams. Dr. Cunningham joined the Bank as an economist with the macropolicy group in 1985, specializing in macroeconomics and monetary theory. He was promoted to senior economist in 1989 and research officer and senior economist with responsibility for the regional group in 1992.
