LAUDERDALE LAKES – A/C BURGLAR LEAVES TENANTS IN A HOT MESS
The calls poured into the administrative offices at the Lauderdale Lakes Industrial Park from tenants who were hot under the collar complaining their A/C units had been stolen.
As business owners were arriving for work on February 1, many of them noticed the air conditioning compressors of their businesses had been stolen. The building administrator confirmed 10 units had been burglarized and called the Broward Sheriff’s Office to report it. BSO Lauderdale Lakes detectives reviewed the industrial park’s surveillance video and saw clear images of a man driving an older model, light blue, Ford truck, arriving with the bed of the truck empty. Forty-five minutes later he’s seen driving off with all the a/c compressors.
Area sources have recognized the suspect as a local scrap metals dealer, though none could provide his name. Detectives point out the distinct wooden side rails on the bed of the truck and say he could be stealing the units to sell as scrap metal, for the copper or to rebuild and resell. The total loss of the 10 units is estimated at around $20,000.
The suspect is described as a male, white or Hispanic, in his early to mid-20s with a beard. He’s seen on video wearing a baseball cap backwards and what appears to be a hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information about the burglary or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact BSO Lauderdale Lakes Detective Gabriel Aragon Jr. at 954-497-1646.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Broward Crime Stoppers by calling 954-493-TIPS or on the web at www.browardcrimestoppers.org.
A reward of up to $1,000 is available for information leading to an arrest.
