Faster permits for green builders in Broward
Under a new program designed to reward contractors and homeowner-builders whose plans are designated “green” by a recognized certification program, the Broward County Permitting, Licensing and Consumer Protection Division has announced that it will speed those projects through the permitting process in less than five business days.
There currently are various programs recognized by the County and throughout the construction industry, such as the United States Green Building Council, that evaluate and certify the “greenness” of a project according to the energy-saving features it contains.
In addition, any contractor or homeowner can ask to have a plan reviewed by Permitting, Licensing and Consumer Protection, whose staff may suggest such energy-saving ideas as installing water conservation devices, adding motion sensors to light fixtures and applying reflective film on windows which receive direct sunlight.
Broward County, as a member of the United States Green Building Council, encourages the use of materials, processes and products that increase the energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint of residential and commercial buildings.
