BSO CATCHES AMERICA’S MOST WANTED FUGITIVE
You may recognize Robert Speights from the America’s Most Wanted web page, where he is listed as a high-risk sex offender and fugitive. Or maybe you’ve seen his mug shot on the Florida Department of Corrections website, where he is on drug offender probation.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit recognized Speights, too, when they surprised him early Friday at the Dania Beach home located at 707 N.W. 9th St. #1, where he has been living. He was hiding in his bedroom when the Fugitive Unit and Dania Beach deputies arrived at his home around 6:30 a.m. He eventually surrendered without incident.
A registered sexual offender, Speights has an extensive criminal history in Florida and Georgia. The America’s Most Wanted television show profiled him after he tricked a 13-year-old girl into going with him into a vacant home where he then tried to rape her. Though that warrant was no longer active, Speights had two outstanding warrants in Broward County. One was for a drug charge, and the other was traffic-related.
