Coconut Creek adopts city green plan

Coconut Creek City Commissioners adopted a City Green Plan at their Commission meeting held on December 10, 2009.  The Green Plan will guide the City’s commitment toward sustainability with the adoption of a City green image, the identification of sustainable themes, a range of action steps, and a method for annual monitoring.

“Coconut Creek has a long history of being environmentally friendly with programs, awards, and certifications,” states Jim Hetzel, Sustainable City Coordinator.  “By implementing this plan, the City provides long-term benefits to the community and establishes environmental accountability.”

The plan was reviewed by the City’s Environmental Advisory Board because the content focuses on environmental themes such as energy and water conservation, renewable energy, waste reduction, recycling efforts, green building design, transportation options, and climate change.

The City also created a City Green Team with members from each city department.  The City Green Team will assist in the implementation and annual monitoring of the plan over a ten-year timeframe.
