City of Miramar to honor 2009 Class 6A Boys Football State Champions

On Saturday, January 23, the City of Miramar will host a parade and pep rally in honor of the 2009 Class 6A Boys Football State Champions, the Miramar High School Patriots.

Led by former Miramar linebacker and head coach Damon Cogdell, the Patriots posted a 14-1 record, capped by a 42-20 state title game victory over DeLand High School on December 19 at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando.  The championship was the first in a boys team sport in school history.

School principal Deborah Davey, coach Cogdell, assistant coaches, players and team staff will travel on floats along the parade route, joined by the Patriots cheerleaders, band, step team, JROTC cadets and selected club members.

The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Anson Park and conclude at the steps of the City of Miramar Town Center (2300 Civic Center Place at the corner of Miramar Boulevard and Hiatus Road) at approximately 2 p.m.

City of Miramar Mayor Lori Moseley will join Ms. Davey and coach Cogdell atop the Town Center’s stairs to present a proclamation declaring January 23, 2010 as Miramar Patriots Day.
