Hallandale, Dania seeking emergency status, FEMA funds for flooding
Hallandale, Dania Beach and Broward County officials, along with FEMA individual assistance and small business assistance teams, have been surveying various areas within the City of Hallandale Beach affected by the flooding from the rainstorm of December 17th and 18th. The results of this preliminary damage assessment are being submitted to Florida Governor Charlie Crist later today with the hope he will issue an executive order requesting federal disaster assistance for our community. At present there is no federal aid available to Hallandale Beach residents or businesses affected by the flooding.
FEMA’s evaluation and decision may take several weeks, thus Hallandale Beach residents should notify their flood insurance providers as soon as possible in order to begin processing home flood damage claims. Residents should also contact their auto insurance providers to process claims regarding damage to their vehicles.
If FEMA declares Broward County to be a disaster area, then eligible applicants may apply for individual assistance (IA) grants which offer various forms of monies for recovery. Please continue to check the City of Hallandale’s website www.cohb.org and the Broward County Call Center at 3-1-1 for updates.
“We want you to know we are working very hard to obtain whatever assistance may be available to minimize the impact of this storm,” said Hallandale officials.
