Ft. Lauderdale police investigating police-involved shooting

Update Dec. 29 at 9:12 a.m.
The suspect from the police involved shooting has been identified as Allen Bryant, B/M, 03/27/1978. Bryant has a substantial criminal history, which includes charges for Attempted Murder, Armed Robbery, Strong-arm robbery, Aggravated Assault with a firearm, and shooting into a vehicle/building.

The officers involved in this police shooting have been identified as Officer Paul Kelley who has three years of employment. The other two officers have been identified as Officer James Hayes and Officer Keith Siegel. Both officers have been employed by the City of Fort Lauderdale for over a year.

The investigation continues.

Update Dec. 27, at 6:12 p.m.

The suspect that was transported to Broward General Medical Center has passed away as a result of his injuries. Identity of the suspect is pending as we await confirmation of his fingerprints. The investigation continues into this police shooting.

The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting that occurred at approximately 3:14 A.M. The shooting took place at the 600 block of Northwest 15 Way, Fort Lauderdale.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that officers were dispatched to the above location in reference to a weapons complaint call. Police dispatch received information that a black male was armed with a handgun walking in the area of the Downbeat Nightclub. On arrival, officers confronted an individual and a brief foot pursuit ensued. Moments later officers engaged the suspect and shots were fired. The suspect was struck and was transported to Broward General Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Police officers were able to recover a firearm on-scene.
