Daily Bread Food Bank now named Feeding South Florida
The Board of the Daily Bread Food Bank has changed the name of the organization to Feeding South Florida. The local food bank’s new name and logo recognizes it’s long-time affiliation with the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, Feeding America.
“We have re-branded our organization both in recognition of our affiliation and to more clearly identify the organization’s fundamental mission to the community,” said Bruce Berman, Board President of Feeding South Florida.
Founded in 1981, Feeding South Florida will continue to provide food to those in need in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. In 2009 more than 150,000 individuals were provided assistance. But the food bank is determined to reach many more individuals in need and with more food. Last year alone, Feeding South Florida saved the not-for-profit community in South Florida over $32 million. Those are dollars that can be used to expand or enhance current programs or create new programs for our community.
The new name is part of an extensive transformation of the food bank to meet the escalated needs of the community in these difficult economic times, which includes not only the new name and a new logo, but also a move into a much larger, state-of-the-art 112,000 square foot warehouse and administrative facility located at 2501 SW 32nd Terrace in Pembroke Park from which the food bank hopes to double its annual food distribution to more than 40 million pounds per year. The affiliation with Feeding America will give Feeding South Florida continued access to more resources and greater costs savings to maximize food distribution to fight hunger.
“In this difficult economy we need to work harder, raise more funds, collect more food and help even more of our neighbors,” explained Berman. “With our expanded facility, national affiliation and new identity we should be well-positioned to continue to grow and meet the incredible demand we are facing.”
