JCC book festival offers heritage, humor and harmony
The collection of writings at the 29th Alper JCC Jewish Book Festival features internationally recognized authors who provide a panorama on world events from the Middle East peace process to clandestine activities in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, to keep Judaism alive in the Soviet Union.
Some of the highlights of this year’s festival:
Women’s Day Luncheon on November 6, features Jeffrey Zaslow, with his bestseller, The Girls From Ames, a non-fictional account of a group of ordinary women who built an extraordinary friendship. Skeletons at the Feast by NY Times bestselling author Chris Bohjalian, captures the horrific and surreal world of Germany in 1939, and reveals the power and poignancy of romance. Martin Indyk, the former US Ambassador to Israel, shares sobering advice garnered from his years of diplomatic service; and Grammy-winning composers Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) and Charles Strouse, each uses musical scores to tell their stories. The Alper JCC Book Festival runs from October 25 through November 16, 2009 with author presentations at location in Pinecrest, Kendall and Coral Gables. For a complete schedule of events, call 305.271.9000 x 268 or log on to www.alperjcc.org. The Alper JCC is located at 11155 SW 112 Avenue, Miami.
