Father of Broward mayor arrested for assaulting her with gun
Ed Portner, father of Broward Mayor Stacy Ritter was arrested late Tuesday evening after he threatened her with a gun.
According to police reports, Portner, of Tamarac, went to his daughter’s house in Parkland, brandished a gun and forced into the house. Once inside, Ritter was able to sneak off to get a glass of water and leaving her house via the interior garage door. Ritter told police she feared for her life.
Portner was arrested at his home and taken to Broward County Jail where he confessed to threatening his daughter with a gun. He is facing two charges: armed burglary and aggravated domestic assault with a deadly weapon. Portner was previously a Tamarac commissioner, and is currently running for mayor. Portner has made it known he is upset that Ritter endorsed Beth Flansbaum-Talabisco, current mayor.
