Students With Disabilities To Be Honored For Their Accomplishments

Fifty-three pre-school through adult education students with disabilities will be recognized for their accomplishments at an awards breakfast in their honor on October 2, 2009, 9 a.m. at Wannado City, Sawgrass Mills Mall, 12801 West Sunrise Boulevard, Sunrise. The event will be attended by the students’ families, school staff and special guest, Broward County Public Schools Superintendent James F. Notter.

The breakfast is the culminating activity of the annual “Just DoIt…I Did” campaign which celebrates the exemplary achievements of students with disabilities. Created in 1999, the campaign is held in conjunction with a National Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Awareness Campaign and the Disability History and Awareness Weeks.   ESE students are nominated by their schools to berecognized for their achievements.

During the event, each teacher present will introduce the student they nominated and explain why he or she deserves to be honored. This year’s honorees include: Lavy Tran, Baudhuin Preschool; Julia Solski, Parkside Elementary School; Daquan Brown, Falcon Cove Middle School; Matthew Dyer, Coral Springs High School and Sequoia Martinez, Hallandale Adult Center.

The event is funded by Wannado City; JimmyJam Productions; Florida Marlins; After School Programs, Inc. and Nova Southeastern University.
