Police raid Lauderhill pharmacy

The male suspect loved doctor shopping. The female suspect got caught selling $20,000 worth of pills during an undercover purchase. What links them? They both got their pills from their favorite neighborhood drug store: The Friendly Pharmacy in Lauderhill.

For months Broward Sheriff’s Office Strategic Investigation Division detectives, working with the DEA, and FBI, have been conducting an ongoing undercover investigation into the illegal sale of prescription drugs that led to the arrest of the two suspects and the emergency closure of the Friendly Pharmacy on June 26. During a DEA inspection of the Lauderhill pharmacy, investigators seized hundreds of signed fraudulent prescriptions that had been filled by doctor shoppers.

This past Tuesday, July 7, detectives arrested one of the pharmacy’s biggest clients: David Naylor, 49. In a period of seven months, Naylor spent more than $47,000 to fill 85 prescriptions for Oxycodone that he obtained from 13 doctors in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach. Unbeknownst to the doctors, Naylor was going from doctor visit to doctor visit, what’s known as doctor shopping, collecting prescriptions for Oxycodone pills to sell. In just one month Naylor visited 10 of the doctors he frequented and was prescribed 2,569 Oxycodone pills. He would cash in between $8-$30 per pill.

Naylor is currently out on bond. At the time of his arrest he was on federal probation for possession of cocaine with intent to sell or distribute.

In April, the investigation also pointed detectives to Kari Giannomoros. Detectives were watching as the 49-year-old woman

Kari Giannamoros

stepped out of her SUV and conducted a $20,000 transaction where she sold more than 2,000 Oxycodone pills during a monitored deal. Giannomoros was taken into custody and still remains at the Broward Sheriff’s Main Jail facing trafficking charges. Detectives obtained a warrant to search her home and found 1,664 Oxycodone pills, 1,126 Hydrocodone pills, hundreds of blank prescriptions, 273 grams of marijuana, $10,868 in cash, and evidence that she was also a frequent visitor of the Friendly Pharmacy.

At the time of Giannomoros’ arrest on May 1 she was out on bond for a 2006 case in which she faced similar charges.
