Police targeting bad drivers tonight on I-95
Tonight, Friday, March 27 from 6 p.m. to midnight, police will be aggressively targeting reckless drivers, speeders, seatbelt violators and the “Move Over Law.”
The Multi-Agency Aggressive Driving Task Force comprised of the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and a dozen law enforcement agencies are continuing Operation “BAD” (Blitz on Aggressive Drivers) Friday and will concentrate on Interstate 95 from Davie Blvd. in Ft. Lauderdale north to Hillsboro Blvd. in Deerfield Beach.
According to BSO, South Florida leads the state in aggressive drivers. This joint enforcement effort has the BSO Regional Traffic Enforcement Unit deputies, FHP troopers, Florida Dept. of Transportation officers and police from all over Broward in unconventional unmarked cars and motorcycles zeroing in on aggressive drivers.
On February 20th, the “BAD” Squad issued 189 citations in an eight-hour period.
Introduced in October 2008, Operation “BAD” is an ongoing effort conducted on the Interstates, toll roads and highways in Broward County. Participating agencies, in addition to those listed above, include: Coconut Creek, Coral Springs, Davie, Florida Dept. of Transportation, Hollywood, Lauderhill, Lighthouse Point, Margate, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Plantation, Sunrise, and Wilton Manors Police Departments.
