Armed robbers pistol-whip Pembroke Park shop owner

Two violent masked men brandishing guns repeatedly pistol-whipped a clerk Monday evening as they robbed The Food Store in Pembroke Park.

Surveillance video captured the aggressive criminals, who wore dark clothing, dark skull caps and white masks, bursting through the front door past a startled customer. One robber jumped over the counter and forced the clerk to the floor. The second robber joined him behind the counter, and they fumbled around for bags and cash. When they couldn’t figure out how to open the cash register, they forced the clerk to open it, repeatedly smacking him in the head with the gun. Both robbers yelled at the clerk to hurry and even began a threatening countdown when he moved too slowly.

As they fled from the store, one robber dropped his bag with cash and cigarettes. The surveillance video showed that one robber wore dark Nike sneakers and the other wore yellow or beige shoes. Witnesses saw the duo jump into a green older model Toyota Camry parked a few houses south of the store. The car headed south on Southwest 32nd Avenue toward County Line Road.

Anyone who recognizes these criminals or knows the car is asked to call Robbery Det. Tony Hierrezuelo at (or report anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS(8477) or online at Crime Stoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest.
