City collecting Halloween Costumes
The City of Parkland has partnered with Free Costumes for Kids and is asking residents to donate unused and old costumes to a worthy cause. From October 15 till November 12, 2010 there will be 3 boxes set up at City Hall, Pine Trails Park Amphitheater and the Parkland Library to collect the costumes. Ternbridge Trail to be Closed for Improvements
The City of Parkland is pleased to announce that the City will begin work on the Ternbridge Trail. Improvements are to include increasing the width of the trail from four feet to six feet and to replace the existing asphalt with more durable concrete. Due to the nature of the work, the Ternbridge Trail will have to close to all use. Signs will be posted on the trail to notify users of when the closure will occur. Holmberg Road Sidewalk
The City of Parkland is pleased to announce that the City will begin construction of a sidewalk on the north side of Holmberg Road between State Road 7 and Parkside Drive. Parkland Library’s Fifth Annual Author Showcase
Saturday, November 13th 11:00 am
A panel of local and national authors will briefly speak about their books, followed by a meet and greet, where the audience will have the opportunity to talk with the authors and purchase autographed books. The exciting genres for this year are suspense thriller, nutrition, Florida history, science fiction romance, and a teen advice book written by a teen. Registration required.

De-Stress Before the Holidays with Dr. Darrow
Thursday, November 4th 10:30 am
Dr. Darrow of Darrow Chiropractic will give a presentation that includes easy ways to reduce stress using relaxation, nutrition, wellness tips and the secret to protecting your body from the damaging effects of stress. Registration required.

Best Pet for Your Family
Tuesday, November 9th 6:30 pm
Dr. Penny Kupferberg from the Coral Springs Pet Resort and Medical Center will teach families how to choose the best pet for their lifestyle. Registration required.

Reader’s Ring Book Group
Tuesday, December 14th 6:30 pm
Join us for our bi-monthly book chat for fifth graders. The book selection for this month is Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter. We will talk about the book and eat a snack. Reserve your copy at the Parkland Library today. Registration required.

Parks and Recreation Events

Movie & Pizza Night
Friday, November 5th
The Parks and Recreation Department will be having a Teen Movie & Pizza Night at Parkland City Hall. Teen’s ages 12-16 are invited to participated in this activity. The evening with consist of a recent movie release, pizza and beverage. Bring all of your friends. The activity will cost $7.00 in advance and $10 at the door. Tickets will be sold at the Parkland Amphitheater and online. The event with be supervised by the City staff. Movie title: Scary Movie 4

Audition for the Winter Talent Showcase
Aston Gardens: November 8, 15 & 29
The City of Parkland Teen Advisory Group is hosting its Fourth Annual Talent Showcase at Aston Gardens showcasing local talent on DEC 14th from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM for Aston Gardens’ residents. We are looking for local talent of all ages to perform at our Winter Talent Showcase. We will be holding auditions on Nov 8th, 15, 29th from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Parkland Amphitheater. Adult Open Lawn Croquet
Wednesday, November 10th
The City of Parkland Parks and Recreation Department presents Adult Open Lawn Croquet. This activity will be held every third Wednesday of each month beginning from 10:00AM-11:30AM at Pine Trails Park, Field #4, 10561 Trails End. This is a fun way to get exercise and socialize at the same time. Beginners and advanced players are welcome. This activity includes equipment. Participants will need to wear flat soled shoes. Croquet Whites are permitted, but not required. Activity is limited to 16 participants. Advance registration is required. This program is free of charge and is open to Parkland residents only ages 21 and older.

Videogame Tournament
Saturday, November 13th
The Parks and Recreation Department will be offering a Video Game Tournament this summer on Saturday, Nov 13th from 12 PM to 4 PM. Participants in this tournament will have an opportunity to compete against their friends in two of the hottest video games around. The participants will play Madden 2011on the XBOX 360 and New Super Marios Bros. on the Nintendo Wii. The tournament is single elimination. Winners from both tournaments will face off in a finals match. Prizes and much more will be given out to the winners. Participants may register to play one or both games. Registration begins on Monday, Oct 11, 2010. The fee is $10 per person. Advanced registration and payment is required. The tournament is limited to 50 participants aged 11-17

City of Parkland Farmer’s Market Opening Day
