Participate in BSO’s FREE Back-To-School Karate Tournament

You have an open invitation to showcase your martial arts skills at the Broward Sheriff’s Office seventh annual Back-to-School karate tournament. The competition will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 28 at Millennium Middle School in Tamarac. . It is open to all ages. School-age competitors will receive free school supplies while they last. The tournament is free, but a donation of new or used clothing is requested.

Participants will be judged on Weapons, Forms, Self Defense, Sparring and Kendo, the art of Japanese swordsmanship, and Brazilian Ju-Jitsu. First, second and third place medals will be awarded in each category. Competitors must bring their own protective gear and equipment.

The Back-To-School tournament was started seven years ago to help needy school-age children get school supplies. Donated clothing is given out to other people in need. Through this event, BSO has given away school supplies to hundreds of students. The tournament is a success each year due to a partnership with local businesses that sponsor the medallions and school supplies.

Tournament sponsors include BSO, Millennium Middle School, Pro Karate & Boxing Supplies in Tamarac, Mabson Investigations in Fort Lauderdale, Staples in Lauderhill, Bud’s Sports Cards & Collectables in Fort Lauderdale, Northridge Chiropractic in Oakland Park, Sunrise Cinemas, Klarman Industrial Technologies and Century Martial Arts.
