Delray Beach Artist Makes Illustration Magic in Ft. Lauderdale gallery

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale’s Mark K. Wheeler Gallery will be hosting a guest artist solo exhibition featuring the work of Stanford Slutsky. “The Shape of Things” exhibition commences with the opening reception Tuesday, June 8 and runs through Thursday, July 29, 2010.

“When I was a child,” says Slutsky of Delray Beach, FL, “there was something about the illusions magicians created that captured my imagination. I want that same vivid sense of illusions to be central in my artwork. Today, all of my work creates the illusion of movement and three – dimensionality.  I achieve these effects by juxtaposing hard-edged color patterns that disrupt the normal process of vision. Some shapes of color may seem to advance and then recede and others appear to pulsate in waves. “

Slutsky has exhibited in numerous venues and participated in many competitions including Boca Raton Museum of Art 54th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition, (out of more than 1100 submissions by nearly 400 artists, he was one of less than 100 artists chosen to represent the best in Florida), the 2006 Art in Public Places at the West Palm Beach Airport, the Rosem Museum Gallery, and Hortt 45 The Best Of South Florida, among others.

“My art is a passion of painstaking, semi-scientific approach to painting based on the manipulation of optical devices, and which depends on subtle color gradations, systematic chromatic harmonic lines and shapes,” continues Slutsky. “I hope my work will stimulate and provoke a positive emotional response in the viewer’s mind just like the magicians did when I was a child.”

The Mark K. Wheeler Gallery is open to the public at no charge. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-10pm, Saturday, 9am-5pm, closed Sundays and holidays. For more information, contact The gallery is located at
