Miami man arrested in West Park shooting

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives have arrested one man in connection with a shooting that left one man dead in West Park Monday night.

The suspect, Sequen Day, 19, is under arrest but remains at an area hospital recuperating from injuries sustained during the shooting.

Broward Sheriff’s Office dispatchers received a call advising shots were fired at 4221 SW 39 Street at around 9:45 p.m. on Monday, April 19. Upon arrival deputies found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, identified as Richard Burke, 48, was transported by Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Shortly after receiving the first call, units were dispatched to a second location at SW 40th Avenue and County Line Road, where a second victim was located. That male victim, Xavier Garzon, 21, who resides at the home where the shooting took place, was also transported to Memorial Regional Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

BSO Homicide detective are continuing to investigate details of the incident.
