Coral Springs has lowest crime rate in Florida

Coral Springs has once again received favorable crime rate rankings for 2009 according to CQ Press, an independent publisher focusing on governmental topics that recently acquired Morgan Quitno Press. For the third consecutive year, Coral Springs came in with the lowest crime rate in Florida, and placed 48th in the nation for 2009 based on FBI crime data for 2008.

Coral Springs was previously ranked the safest city in Florida by Morgan Quitno Press. Over the past 15 years, the total number of crimes per 100,000 people has decreased by 50 percent while the population has increased by 42 percent.

“Public safety is of paramount importance to our organization and our community, and our outstanding Police Department constantly strives to provide a safe environment in which our families and businesses can thrive,” City Manager Michael S. Levinson said.

In the current City Crime Rankings publication, published annually for the past 16 years, CQ Press compiled FBI figures for 393 cities with populations of 75,000 or more and analyzed reported crimes, including murder, rape, aggravated assault, robbery, burglary and theft.
