Teen arrested for Boyd Anderson murder
One of the four suspects wanted for the murder of a Fort Lauderdale teenager is now in custody. Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives need the public’s help locating the other three.
Since the ruthless murder of 16-year-old Gregory Smith on April 4, BSO Homicide investigators have been following every lead. Detectives obtained information about a possible location for one of the suspects in Lauderdale Lakes. Thursday evening (4/16/09), with the assistance of the BSO Lauderdale Lakes Safe Neighborhood Unit, Janard Orange was arrested at 3831 NW 21 Street.
On April 16, detectives obtained a warrant for the suspected driver, 18-year-old Terrance Eugene James, and are looking for the other two gunmen known as “K.T.” and “Fats,” who are known to frequent the central Lauderhill area. All of these men are presumed to be armed and dangerous.
On that fateful night, Terrance James borrowed a dark green Mustang. Unbeknownst to the owner, James used his vehicle to commit the robbery-turned-murder. Detectives would like to speak to the owner of the Mustang, who is believed to frequent the 1200 block of NW 7 Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, where the car was possibly spotted.
Gregory Smith was with a group of friends in the 4100 block of NW 29 Avenue, in front of Boyd Anderson High School, waiting for someone to pick them up following a school function, when he was robbed and killed.
Orange faces one count of felony murder in the first degree.
