Weekly update from Rep. Kelly Skidmore

The Governor’s Legislative Actions

After signing 60 bills on Wednesday, including the bill to create a three-day tax holiday for back-to-school shoppers in August, the governor now has 102 bills pending on his desk.  In addition to SB 1196, the Condominium/Homeowner Association Reform bill (June 1 is the deadline to act), the governor late last week was sent SB 2272, the “Pill Mill Bill”.  Governor Crist has until June 5 to act on that bill.  As of noon on Friday, Governor Crist has signed 184 bills into law and vetoed four bills (HB 981, HB 7103, HB 1207, SB 6).  The lone bill that has not been sent to the governor is HB 1143, which includes the anti-abortion language.

Late this afternoon, the Governor signed the $70 billion 2010-11 $70 state budget.  He used his line-item veto power to veto $371 million in projects that “did not receive adequate open and transparent review and others that did not follow established processes or benefited only select groups.”  For more details go to: www.flgov.com/release/11635.
