Take Part in the Mayor’s Extreme Makeover Challenge

On Saturday, February 6, Mayor Roger B. Wishner will host the Sunrise Mayor’s Extreme Makeover Challenge. This free workshop on healthy living will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Village Civic Center (). Pre-registration is not required.

The Mayor’s Extreme Makeover Challenge will include such topics as: The Five Essentials for Healthy Longevity; Nutrition; Stress and Time Management; and Exercise.

The workshop will feature guest speaker Dr. David Yachter, author of the bestselling book “Born a Champion – The Master Strategy for Maximum Health and Lasting Success.” Dr. Yachter is an endurance athlete and sought-after lecturer on the topic of Maximized Living. For more information, call (

“Hello, Dolly!” Takes the Stage in Sunrise
On Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m., enjoy “Hello, Dolly!” – the enduring, Tony-award winning musical – at the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre ().

Other upcoming performances include:

Filled with ’60s-style dance music and downtown rhythm and blues.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Family Luau
Grab your grass skirt and your ‘ohana (family) for an evening of island-style fun. The City’s Family Luau – set for Saturday, February 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Sunrise Civic Center Gymnasium () – will feature limbo, hula-hoop and costume contests. Learn the hula and enjoy light refreshments, too.

Children must be accompanied by an adult, and pre-registration by Wednesday, February 10, is required. Admission is $5 for Sunrise residents and $10 for non-residents. Call (for more information.


“Name That Park!” Contest Deadline Extended
The City of Sunrise is preparing to add three new parks – representing almost 24 acres of green space – to its roster of recreation amenities. Plans have been approved and construction is set to begin this year. But the parks need names!

Sunrise residents: Visit www.sunrisefl.gov/namethatpark.html to learn more about each park site and vote for the names you like best. All eligible entries submitted by Friday, February 26, will be entered in a drawing for a one-year individual membership to the Sunrise Civic Center Athletic Club.
