Lauderdale by the Sea cooking school celebrates National Pie Day
The smells of homemade cooking drifted out of Lenore Nolan-Ryan’s Cooking School and Catering Company Friday as the
shop celebrated National Pie Day. Throughout the day, people dropped in to make one of several different pies for only $5.
“We’re a cooking school, but the emphasis is on fun–make them comfortable in the kitchen, but enjoy what they do,” said Nolan-Ryan as she bustled around her kitchen showing guests how to make the pie crusts, the proper amount of apples or topping and other tips. “We wanted to bring National Pie Day home to our neighborhood and have our own pie.”
She said she hopes people gave pies to people they admire–teachers, parents, next-door neighbors, and others.
“In pies, the main ingredient is always love,” she says while smiling.
The shop opened in 2000, where the former Gino’s Pizzeria was located, and the pizzeria switched in early 2003 to the cooking school.
