Broward Sheriff’s Office investigating vehicular homicide

A man riding a small, off-road motorcycle on a sidewalk was killed Monday night, Dec. 21, when the driver of a van ran off the road and hit him.

Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide detectives are investigating Errol Beckford’s death and are attempting to determine why 62-year-old Willie Sharp’s van left the road while making a turn. Sharp was driving a 1999 Dodge van southbound on Northwest 27th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale just before 9:30 p.m. when he attempted to turn left onto Northwest 6th Street. However, he made his turn too wide and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting Beckford on his dirt bike.

Beckford was transported to Broward General Medical Center, where he died. Charges against Sharp are pending the results of the investigation.
